Here is a sketch for you

This is a little sneak peek of an octopus I started working on. I like the direction I was going with this, so I'll try to finish it.

internet, or lack thereof

I have not been posting lately (obviously). The main reason for this is that we do not have internet access at the tattoo shop for the time being. It sucks. I've been forced to actually work, or to draw lately. I know....I'm sure all of you are shocked and appalled at the abuse boredom has stuck me with. Just know that I WILL make it through this.
Some may ask, "why not just post from your phone...like you're doing now?"
My answer to that is a lengthy diatribe of question dodging answers mixed with my charm of making you feel guilty about asking such a personal, intrusive question to begin with. How dare you. In short, my answer is "because". I can say I'll try to be a better person. I'll try not to hit mommy at the dinner table for over-cooking the steak, but we all know it's you people who make me do this to you.
Well, I'm glad we got that cleared up. I'll try to post from my phone more often. It won't always be art related though. I think I'll throw some random thoughts out as well. Until next time...

a quick sketch for you.

Here's a little something I sketched up while at work the other day. I realize that I haven't been posting very much lately. Perhaps I can try to update this every week with something. Until then, enjoy the skull.

New shop

For those of you who haven't heard, I'm now working at Rebellious Tattoo in Apple Valley, CA. It's a new shop started by artists, so you know it's the bombdiggity...whatever that means. Anywho, come check us out, and get tattooed, leave with awesome art on the body part of your choosing, then go home and ponder what tattoo you want next...maybe even play some Black Ops on Xbox Live, try to join a game I'm playing and repay me for all the pain i've caused, but end the game in disappointment after seeing me own your team. Mwahahaha! Or not.

Also here is my Xbox Live gamertag just in case you want to test your skills. oOZombieMuseOo (those are NOT zeros btw...as in "oh oh zombiemuse oh oh he just kicked my ass!"  or you can insert whatever phrase you like.)

nightmare painting

So, I suppose that I should start this off with a little background on the concept.  A few months ago I had a dream/nightmare where this guy was crawling on his hands an knees toward someone I know.  She turned instantly pale and old looking as she stared at him.  It was like a deer-in-headlights- type of thing.  She was so scared all pigment left her body.  It was freaky to say the least.  I thought it was someone in a mask just messing around, so I went over to her, and it turned toward me.  His sunken eyes glared at me, and I realized there was no mask.  He was white with weathered, fucked up skin.  I felt fear as I looked at it, then I woke up.  I sat up in bed kind of freaked out; it didn’t help that I woke up my girlfriend sleeping next to me because when I turned around I saw here staring at me.  Needless to say it freaked me out again and confused her.  So of, course I felt the need to paint this disturbing image that has been burned into my memory for all to be disturbed with me.  Mwahahaha.  No?  ok.  On to the stages of the painting.

The first thing i did was sketch it onto the canvas.
next i just started painting trying to make lines where i need to shade.
i just built it up a little more.
i saved the hair for one of the last spots because i wanted to get the face pretty much done so i wouldn't have to worry about trying to paint in between the hairs...if that makes sense to you.
so with the hair in place and the top of the face basically there i started darkening everything.  i didn't like the background so i made it darker.  i pretty much just thinned out some black with linseed oil and smeared it with a paper towel.  perfection.  haha  also i added the skin peeling in spots and just added a bit more detail.
and here if the finished product.  tightened everything up, and fixed the shirt.  i didn't really need a bunch of detail in the shirt, but i wanted it to look realistic for the most part.
here's a detail of the eye.  i added some blue for veins...looked cool to me.
anyway...there you go.  it was all done in oils.  it's 18" x 24" on canvas.

New artwork up

Well, they aren't exactly new paintings, but they are new photos.  I did these as a set last year but never took photos until today.  they are both 8" x 10" acrylic on canvas entitled "From Within (left and right).  enjoy.

Blog app for droid

This is pretty much a pointless post. I'm just curious to see how well this app works. If you must continue reading in fear of missing important ZombieMuse information, let me warn you that there will be no such information. Still here? Jeez! You guys are persistent. Anyway, this concludes the pointless blog post test. If this were a real emergency, it would be strange and a little disturbing that you would be checking this blog. Thank you.

Portrait Time!

I did a portrait tonight on my girlfriend of her grandmother.  It took a little over two hours, and there is still at least another hour to go.  I need to finish up the hair (I just kinda sketched it in so I wouldn't lose the lines), and I need to just add more contrast and shading all around.  The pics were taken with my phone, so please forgive the low quality.
Here is a progress shot.  It kind of gives you an idea on the way I tattoo portraits.

Here is where we left off.  After it heals I'll finish it up and post more pics.

zombiemuse.net

My website should be up and running within a week or so hopefully.  I have my best people on it, and when I say my best people, I mean my brother...so the ball in his court, so to speak, although a sport analogy really isn't appropriate here because neither one of us even likes sports involving balls (which most of them seem to do with the exception of women's boxing and the bicycle racing).  Anyway, i will keep everyone updated on the progress, and by everyone i mean all three of you that read this thing...and by progress i mean...well...progress.  i shouldn't have to explain that word to you people.  Jeez!

Blah Blah

Although I haven't done anything worth posting lately, i want to direct your attention to an awesome artist and photographer.  I had the honor in writing up a bio for him which you can read here: http://therarebird.com/robert-baratone/ .  Also, check out his website for more awesomeness.  http://www.ruinedphotography.com/ .

As for me, I'll start getting to work soon and posting more work.  I know that I have a procrastination problem, and I will work on fixing that tomorrow.

facebook update

I just created a new username for my facebook page.  Now you can get to it by typing facebook.com/artofzombiemuse .  For some reason "zombiemuse" was already taken as a username.  Not to worry though, as i have thousands of ninja gnomes at my disposal.  They have orders to secure this impostor until my arrival, after which i shall outfit this person with headphones that excrete the shrill sounds of Justin Bieber until his/her ears bleed while forcing them to witness countless episodes of "BJ and the Bear" from the 80s until he/she swallows his/her tongue to stop the madness and end the misery.  i'll keep everyone informed of the progress.

random sketch

Here's the first sketch to be added to this blog.  Just a random skull study i did last night.
